Here’s something to ponder: skiing in Argentina. I’m so conditioned to consider our ski season which runs from December through March (for the most part) but I was thinking about all of the people that prefer the cold and snow to the heat and the sand. Well, ironically, many people are looking for a winter getaway. They’re starting to experience colder temperatures and thinking of some place warm.

I can promise that spending summers in Texas makes me dream of some place cold! Well, as I’m sure you are aware, the Northern and Southern Hemisphere’s pretty much run on opposite schedules based on the tilt of the earth and it’s location in orbit around the sun. In short, when it’s summer time in Texas, it’s winter time in Argentina! Think about that! The ski season in Argentina pretty much runs from June to the beginning of October. They have national holidays for about two weeks at the end of July and it might not be a good idea to travel during that time since it’s going to be very busy and prices will usually be higher. It would be the equivalent of traveling during Christmas and New Years in the states.

Anyway, if you needed a winter getaway for something warmer, you can always look to Cancun and other tropical locations. We’re just pointing out that you can always look south of the equator to find something “opposite” of what you are experiencing. If you’re truly starting to plan vacations for next summer, maybe take a look at some Argentina Ski Resorts.

Cerro Cathedral Ski Resort is the biggest and most developed ski resort in Argentina, maybe even all of South America. There are 40 lifts, a terrain park and everything that you would expect in terms of shopping, ski stores and tourism.

Cerro Chapelco is another possible destination. It’s high up in San Martin de los Andes. Chapelco is over 6200 feet at some places. It’s only 12 miles from San Martin (the city) and the best way to get there is to fly into Buenos Aires and then work out the ground transportation.

One thing is for certain, you will not find any better skiing choices in the United States from June to October!
