A long way from Cancun

This blog is a travel blog mostly dedicated to Cancun. We use Cancun as a grounding point for comparison to other places around the world. We figure it gives a point of reference for comparison. As you know, Cancun is a place of beaches, scuba diving, tequila, margaritas, exotic animals, deep sea fishing and fun in the sun. It’s a place to put your toes in the sand, sip on an umbrella drink, nap under a palm tree, jet ski, sail and just relax.
Well, they say opposites attract! When looking for a place that is quite opposite Cancun, we present to you Moscow, USSR. Moscow is a world class city while Cancun is a world class resort. Moscow has an average annual temperature of 42 degrees Fahrenheit while Cancun’s average temperature is 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
As far as food goes, the world has pretty much become a melting pot with the advances in travel. Most places offer a variety of cuisines. Cancun and Moscow are no different. However, when it comes to food that is indigenous to the region, Cancun has tropical fruits readily accessible. Moscow, on the other hand, would rely on berries for fruit. Both have the ability to catch fish and raise poultry. Moscow is more of a tundra so wheat, mushrooms and rye are popular. Yucatan cuisine (Cancun is on the Yucatan Peninsula) is full of native peppers, sour oranges, fish wrapped in banana leaves, sweet salsas, chili salsas, eggs and many other flavors that reflect the abundance of food in the tropics.
In Cancun, you’ll be thinly dressed and in a more recreational mood whereas, in Moscow, you will most likely be more heavily clothed, perhaps snuggled up to a fire and surrounding yourself in the history, culture and architecture of the region.
One thing is certain: you’ll want inexpensive yet quality places to stay when you visit both destinations. We’ll cover different resorts in Cancun more and more as we build out our blog. But, for Moscow, this website on Moscow Hotels is a good resource.
